Woman tells of rape fear
Tuesday 19th June 2007, 2:56PM BST.
A Telford woman feared she was going to be raped when she was attacked by two men who knocked her to the ground and beat her in a late night attack.June Ford was walking from The Anchor pub in Madeley towards her home in Villa Court at 11.25pm yesterday when the two men targeted her.
The 56-year-old said she was punched to the face when she turned around after hearing somebody behind her.
The force of the blow knocked her to the ground and the two men started to kick her. Miss Ford said she was “petrified” she would not escape her attackers.
Recovering at home today, Miss Ford said she hoped the photograph of her injuries would warn other people about her attackers, who are still at large.
“They were behind me, I heard them,” she said. “I looked behind me and got hit to the face.
“I fell to the ground. . . I knew I had to try to defend myself, so I kicked one of the men to the groin and ran. It was very frightening. I’m scared they might do it to someone else.”
The two men, described as in their 20s, did not steal anything or say anything to her during the attack.
Miss Ford, who was left shaken by the incident but did not need hospital treatment, said: “It happened so quickly.
“I turned around and had a big smack in my face. I think he had a ring on from the injuries to my face.
“I only go out twice a week to play cribbage and dominoes, but this has made me think twice about leaving the pub on my own again.
“I don’t know what would have happened if I had not defended myself and run like I did. It all happened out in the open too.
“I just wanted to get home and lock my door. They would have definitely done more than what they did if I hadn’t got away.
“I was scared of being raped – that’s what went through my mind.”
Detectives have been carrying out house-to-house inquiries in the area in the hope of finding witnesses.
Spokeswoman Sarah Warren said: “This was a nasty, unprovoked but unusual assault.”
