A mother has designed and developed a revolutionary product to help young children get to sleep – just in time for the longest day of the year.Lavinia Thompson, of Codsall, near Albrighton, has launched the baa-baa blind for frustrated parents desperate to keep the light out of bedrooms to help their tired offspring to doze off peacefully.

The idea came to Lavinia during family holidays with her first baby, when she got tired of trying to hang blankets and towels over flimsy curtains in a bid to make sure the new addition to the family could fall asleep without too much trouble.

Research reveals babies have different sleep patterns to adults. Adults spend 75 to 80 per cent of their time in deep sleep and 20 to 25 per cent in shallow sleep.

Babies spend 50 per cent of their time in shallow sleep, meaning they wake more easily.

The baa-baa blind, officially launched at the Baby Show at Birmingham’s NEC, is already a firm favourite with parents.

“The more people we speak to the more hilarious stories we hear of broken curtain poles, furniture rearranging, even taping up binbags to keep out the light,” said Lavinia. “The solution is definitely well overdue.”

The blind fits over the window using suckers, giving a closer fit than conventional blinds to minimise light leaking in.
