It pays to take care online

My generation is maybe the most technologically aware yet, writes our Teen Blogger Rhian Jenkins.
We use the internet to communicate like never before and there are plenty of social web sites out there to encourage us.
Unlike physically meeting others though, communicating from the security of our homes to an audience of net buddies who we can cut away from at any time, encourages us to be bolder, more flamboyant and sometimes more stupid than we might be otherwise.
This can really come back to kick us when we least expect, or want it to.
Student News reports that a lot of employers are now using the net to check up on potential employees.
That stupid blog written in the heat of the moment, or that drunken episode, caught on a mobile phone camera, where amongst lots of laughter and egging on, you hilariously vomited into your friend’s boots before putting them back under the bed, could well and truly exclude you from that job interview you were hoping to get.
The message is, be careful, or be sorry.

The whole idea of blogging sends shivers down my spine. I can see the fun side of it but as with most things in life now, you really do have to be careful as there is usally a sinister side to most things. Why anyone would want to see someone boffing into a pair of boots is beyond me though…

It is worth noting that most social sites have a ‘privacy’ option, so that only you, and your approved friends, if you wish, can see your blogs and even your profile.
Aside from potential employers reading your rants, why anyone would want total strangers reading through their life is beyond me.
