Approval assures future

Regarding Madeley’s future as a district centre.
On May 9, I wrote that the next turning point in the long fight for Madeley’s future would be the decision by the Government Office of the West Midlands to approve the planning application agreed by Telford & Wrekin Council’s plans board on April 11.
This was indeed affirmed on June 6. Residents can certainly enjoy their summer break safe in the knowledge that Madeley’s future as a major district centre for south Telford is assured.
Over the summer months, planning bosses will continue to negotiate the fine print of the community benefits to which Madeley is entitled in the wake of this major planning application: investment in education, street lighting and an improved access at Maddocks for our most elderly and disabled residents – for which Madeley’s Independent councillor has long campaigned.
It is, of course, in the hands of the developer as to exactly when works will commence on phase one (top of High Street).
However, with this approval by the Government Office of West Midlands now granted, Madeley has taken quite a big step in what has been a long and frustrating journey to redress the legacy of Telford development.
