Tuesday 12th June 2007, 1:57PM BST.

Distance: Three-and-a-half miles.
Terrain: Easy walking on lanes, tracks and fieldpaths; three stiles.

aldon_walk.jpg1. Start at the telephone box at Whittytree, south-west of Onibury, and walk down the lane towards Onibury as far as the crossroads by the entrance lodge to Stokesay Court.

2. Turn left after passing Stepaside, climb up the lane, pausing at any gaps in the hedge to take in the views over Clee Hills, until reaching a T-junction at the top.

3. Turn left and pass through the hilltop settlement of Aldon. After passing a small pond on the left, look out for a footpath sign on the right. Continue down the lane for 30 yards and turn left down a partially hidden path and through a bridle gate.

4. Continue down the side of the fence clearing and keep to the right of this, passing a wooden gate on the right, and continue along the boundary fence before passing to the right of a ruined cottage.

5. Cross over the wide forest track to the path ahead and continue along this with the wood on the right and a fence on the left.

6. The path doubles back on itself and crosses a streambed by a stile. Turn left here alongside the stream, cross a stile, a hurdle and another stile, as this path also bears round to the right before joining a wide track.

7. Continue ahead out of the wood into a long narrow field with the attractive Stonehouse Pools on the left, and follow the path as it climbs up to the farm buildings in the top right-hand corner of the field.

8. Turn right through the gate and continue ahead to return to the start.
