Wasps are really harmless
Wednesday 30th May 2007, 11:00AM BST.
Wasps will often build a nest in a roof, under the floor by entering via an air brick, in a hole in a wall, in a shed or elsewhere, and sometimes this is close to human habitation.
Many people just think, “Wasps! Call in pest control and kill them.” But in reality they will seldom do anyone any harm. As long as the nest is not very close to a door or window that must be opened, the wasps will will not attack. They do not attack unless threatened.
So, if you have wasps, just leave them alone.

Wasp stings can put some people into anaphylactic shock, and possibly a coma. They should be treated very seriously indeed.

Pull the other one Richard – as long as it isn’t a wasps wing of course !!

Richard, you are clearly naive as Liz said, they can cause some people terrible problems.. that’s like saying peanuts are harmless! I think you’ll find lots of people don’t find them harmless either!

Thank you Liz – I am never without my Epipen having been in shock several times from wasp stings. After a sting people who are alergic have only ten minutes before the venom restricts the breathing passages. I know of at least two people who died in our community in the past couple of years from wasp stings. I suggest every family should have an Epipen in their first aid kit- and take it with them whenever on excursions into the countryside.

Obviously Richard Camp does not know what he is talking about. My son was doing nothing to annoy one particular wasp but it stung him three times on the side. luckily for us we were only a couple of minutes from a chemist. when you have children a wasp presents a very real problem indeed. Killing them is the only solution as far as i’m concerned.
