Hopes of a cash boost for town

Sunday 20th May 2007, 5:31AM BST.

Shifnal could win millions of pounds in funding and investment as the formation of a town plan reaches its next stage.

A public meeting will be held in Shifnal Village Hall on June 5, at 7pm, for people to give their ideas on what the plan should include.

The meeting comes after more than 70 people turned out at a Let’s Talk session last year and claimed the town would lose out on millions of pounds if a parish plan was not formed “as a matter of urgency”.

Resident Gordon Tonkinson said the town was already several years behind developments in other areas and was at risk of losing out altogether. He said the town was far behind other places such as Highley and Newport.

The meeting was told resident Jane Owen had offered to write a parish plan and would now get the backing of the council.

Mrs Owen has been working on the project since and now hopes the plan could become reality.
