Burglars raid pubs

Sunday 20th May 2007, 5:56AM BST.

A gang of burglars raided pubs on main roads across Mid Wales, stealing cash and electrical items.

The thieves are said to have driven into Powys from Herefordshire to commit the crimes, taking goods worth hundreds of pounds from five pubs.

Police believe they followed a route overnight Tuesday which took them to pubs along the A44 from New Radnor to Crossgates, down the A483 to Llandrindod Wells, along either the A470 or A44 to Rhayader.

Then down the A470 to Builth Wells and Llyswen, along the A479 to Three Cocks, then the A438 to Glasbury and Willersley, and the A4111 out of Powys towards Eardisley.

Forensic teams have examined the crime scenes, and investigators were said to be working with neighbouring forces, because the burglars were believed to be from outside Powys.

A police spokeswoman said: “Stolen property included cash and electrical items.”

She said it was believed the burglars were using a blue car with a spoiler and a “very loud exhaust”.
