Coveted numbers up for grabs

Tuesday 15th May 2007, 5:55PM BST.

Race for Life The organisers of this year’s Shrewsbury Race for Life have been amazed by the support of Shropshire women and with less than ten weeks to go, the race is now full.

Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life, supported by Tesco, is a national series of 5km walks or runs for women which will be held across the UK this summer.

And 2,000 women have registered to take part in this year’s Shrewsbury Race for Life, which will be held at the West Mid Showground on July 15 and has now closed.

Cancer Research UK’s Shrewsbury Race for Life organiser, Richard Brown, said: “I’m delighted by the response of Shrewsbury’s women this year and thrilled that the event has filled so quickly!

“I now urge every woman that has got a place to get going with their fundraising so we can smash our target of £166,000 as it is so important in saving lives and funding the vital work of Cancer Research UK.

“One of the easiest ways to fundraise is to set up your online sponsorship page. Visit www.raceforlifesponsorme.org to find out more.”

The money raised by the 2,000 women from Shrewsbury’s race will help support Cancer Research UK fund around 3,500 scientists, doctors and nurses based throughout the UK.

If you’ve not been able to get a place in the Shrewsbury Race for Life this year, there are still places available in the following local events, at Town Park, Telford on May 19 and 20 and at Shugborough, Stafford on June 26 and 27.

And Star Woman has a special reason to encourage people to sign up for the Telford race with the numbers one and two up for grabs in a special competition.

We are offering readers the chance to run in those two coveted spots and help us to launch the Sunday race on May 20.
