A Shropshire market hall is in line for a massive refurbishment costing more than £1 million to transform it into a library and enterprise centre.
Shropshire County Council has submitted a bid to the Big Lottery for the redevelopment of Ellesmere Market Hall.
The authority has been working with north Shropshire councillors and community groups on the project and today confirmed they had applied for a £924,000 cash grant.
The money will allow the the chartered Victorian building, in Scotland Street, to be completely redeveloped. The whole project is expected to cost £1.3 million.
A county council spokesman said: “If successful the funding from the Big Lottery Community Libraries scheme will provide Ellesmere and the surrounding area with a greatly improved and extended library, information and computer services, access to council and public services and to a number of other services and facilities.
“These include community learning, a youth centre, meeting spaces and regular information and advice from a range of agencies and organisations.”
