Bucks bosses tighten security
Tuesday 1st May 2007, 2:32PM BST.
AFC Telford United bosses have stepped up security measures for tonight’s play-off semi-final match against Marine in an attempt to avert a repeat of recent bad behaviour.
On Saturday, as 5,710 people packed into the ground to watch the championship decider against Burscough – which Telford lost 2-1 – two men ran on to the pitch and confronted an opposition goalscorer.
And during a game against Kendal Town in March someone ran up to a linesman and tried to grab his flag.
The club has banned all the offenders from the ground for life.
Although officials are today expecting a crowd of around 3,000, they have prepared for as many as 4,500.
The New Bucks Head will also be fully segregated with the Sir Stephen Roberts and David Hutchison stands and part of the East Terrace available for home fans.
As a safety measure, and to give fans more room, the capacity of the David Hutchison Stand has been cut from 1,440 to 1,200.
Marine fans, of which about 50 are expected, will be housed in the scoreboard end of the East Terrace.
Plans have also been put in place for them to enter via different gates.
Following Saturday’s game a spokesman said: “We will review every aspect of Saturday and act accordingly.”
