Plea as man hurt on bike
Monday 30th April 2007, 10:13AM BST.
A motorcyclist crashed his bike which then burst into flames on a Shropshire country road, police said today.
The bike was destroyed in the crash on the B4364 Ludlow Road, near Bridgnorth, just after 11.30am yesterday, but the rider, a man in his 40s, escaped serious injury. He was taken to the Princess Royal Hospital with injuries to his legs.
Constable Nick Albutt said the man’s worst injuries were to his legs, as instead of wearing proper motorcycle clothing he was only wearing jeans. He appealed for riders to ensure they were properly kitted-up before heading out on their bikes.
Mr Albutt said: “The weather is very warm so some riders may be tempted not to put on proper protective clothing. However, as we have seen in this incident, it really can make a difference if you are involved in a collision. This rider was only wearing jeans.
“Please ensure that if you are making a trip on your motorbike, that you wear full leathers. They really will protect you from injury better than normal clothing.”
Mr Albutt said the bike, a Yamaha, burst into flames following the collision and had to be extinguished by the fire service.
A spokeswoman for Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “We were called to an accident involving a motorcycle, which was severely damaged by fire.”
Witnesses can call Bridgnorth police on 08457 444888.
