Probe into house fire

Saturday 28th April 2007, 11:22AM BST.

Fire crews spent nearly three hours battling a fire that tore through the first floor and roof of a Shropshire home in the early hours of this morning.

Twenty five firefighters were called in from Whitchurch, Prees and Malpas to tackle the blaze in Smallbrook Road, Whitchurch, at about 3am. One male and one female escaped unhurt.

An investigation into the cause of the fire, which spread from a first-floor bedroom to a loft conversion, was continuing today.

Sub Officer Mike Beach, of Whitchurch fire station, said the cause “was not obvious”.
