MP backed on road charge
Wednesday 25th April 2007, 6:11AM BST.
Borough councillors have backed the MP for Shrewsbury’s actions over the possible introduction of congestion charging in the town – despite no formal proposals.
Daniel Kawcyznski MP, who opposes congestion charges, has been meeting with various groups to look at the possibility that congestion charging could be introduced in Shrewsbury in the future.
It follows Shropshire County Council’s successful bid to win funding to carry out a feasibility study looking at various measures to tackle congestion problems in the town.
At a full meeting of Shrewsbury and Atcham Borough Council on Monday, Councillor Peter Nutting said: “I think it is quite right our MP raises the subject.”

I live in Telford and love to visit Shrewsbury, especially when we have overseas visitors. Currently it is very hard to park even though we have a disability and blue badge concessions. If we arrive much after 09:00 am all the disabled places are taken.
The car parking off road costs are too high for us to afford and I can only see any congestion charges introduced would totally convince us, and millions of others, to avoid Shrewsbury shops and historic sites totally.
This is really another money stealing ploy by the local council, I bet Telford are planning this too ??
I will NEVER vote for any politician / party that keeps on taking money from the motorists – I will think seriously about who I vote for on May 3rd.
