Cartoon festival kicks off

Friday 20th April 2007, 11:18AM BST.

Cartoon capers return to Shrewsbury this weekend for the town’s annual International Cartoon Festival.

The event will feature up to 40 of the country’s best known cartoonists and caricaturists. Organisers say broadcaster and writer Libby Purves, who is a patron of the festival, will also attend.

The festival is being staged at a variety of locations around the town today, tomorrow and Sunday but will be officially launched by the town’s mayor Councillor Roger Evans tonight.

Festival chairman, Shropshire based cartoonist Roger Penwill said: “We are delighted that Libby is coming to the festival again. Her enthusiasm and active support is a real boost for the event.”
