All 29 seats of Oswestry Borough Council are up for re-election, although 12 seats are not being contested, including that of the mayor elect, Neil Arthan in St Martins.
The council is currently Conservative controlled, but with no overall majority – Conservative 14, Liberal Democrat 5, Progressive Independent Alliance 4, Independent 3, Independent Alliance 2, Labour 1.
A number of long-standing councillors are not seeking re-election. They include former mayors Councillor Bill Keable, Councillor Dilys Gaskill and Councillor David Cooper as well as Councillor Wilf Jones and Councillor James Barrow.
Fighting to take over Councillor Barrow’s seat is his father, Keith Barrow.
He and his wife, Joyce Barrow, are one of four husband and wife duos seeking election. Others are Richard and Neeta Burman, William and Moira Benyon and Margaret and Michael Chamberlain.
