Decision due on log cabins

Tuesday 10th April 2007, 4:22AM BST.

Log cabins could be built near Whitchurch to attract more holidaymakers. Developers want to build five timber holiday cabins at Blakemere in Black Park Road.

They say the cabins would improve a large fishing pool and tourist attraction.

Other changes include a disabled fishing spot and more parking spaces.

But parish councillors are objecting to the application.

The countryside site, a mile north east of the town, is part of a large estate.

Any changes would also see landscaping and trees and shrubs planted to help screen the area.

But Whitchurch Rural Parish Council says the cabins are too large, would be prominent from the road and are out of scale and character with the open countryside. There have been no other objections.

The developer won outline permission for cabins at the site about a year ago but now wants full permission for larger buildings.

North Shropshire District Council will meet on Wednesday to look at the scheme and members are recommended to approve it.

A report says the nearest property is more than 100 metres away on the opposite side of the road and would have a limited view of the new development.

The report states: “In support of the applicant a mini business appraisal has been submitted which demonstrates the positive impact such a development can have on the local economy. There will also be a level of local employment generated by the scheme.”

Planners say the development meets requirements and would not have a bad impact on the country. They said there was no highway risk and the scheme should be approved with conditions.
