All revved up for good cause

More than 200 motorcyclists hit the road for charity in an Easter Bank Holiday Monday bike run around the streets of Telford.
With some in fancy dress and some in bunny outfits, the cavalcade organised by Bug Splatz Motor Cycle Club set off from Wylie & Holland Motorcycles in Watling Street, Wellington, and at a steady pace of around 20mph took in Leegomery, Hadley, Oakengates, Priorslee, Telford town centre, Hollins-wood, Dawley, Randlay, Brookside, Madeley, and back to Wellington.
“We were really pleased,” said Sarah Harrison, secretary and treasurer of Bug Splatz. “We think there were about 210 bikes, which is not as many as at Christmas, but is more than at Easter last year.
“We had probably about 25 to 30 members of the club taking part, and the others were non-members, either being members of other clubs or people who had just come out for the ride.
“They included some from Stoke-on-Trent. We had people coming out to watch, and a couple of people gave some of the riders charity money in envelopes.”
The run, which took a little over an hour, was in aid of two charities – First Response, and the Shropshire Star’s Flying Doctor Appeal. The total, which includes money raised from a raffle and an auction, is being totted up and the final sum will be known shortly.
“The next ride is the Christmas one, although we don’t know who that will be in aid of yet. Members suggest the charities,” added Sarah.

I’m not a member but I went on the run with my son and I’d just like to add what a fantastically well organised and enjoyable event it was, raising around £1400 for good causes. It was a great, family event with kids from 6 months to 70+ years old enjoying the atmosphere!
Seeing everyone lining the streets and waving was fantastic, thank you everyone for not complaining too much if we held you up on your journey.
Well done to the Bugsplatz and I’ll see you all again at Christmas! The Bugsplatz website is at http://www.bugsplatz.co.uk/

I volunteered to Marshall the event and the experience was absolutely brilliant. The money raised was also good, hopefully they will continue on and make it much more!!
