The Duke rides into town
Saturday 7th April 2007, 10:59AM BST.
Antiques expert David Dickinson was in Shrewsbury today to dig out some treasures from attics across the town. The flamboyant TV presenter was at Shrewsbury Sports Village, Sundorne Road, to film an episode of his ITV show, Dickinson’s Real Deal, from 9am until 5pm.
Members of the public have been invited to take along any antiques they think might be valuable for the “dealer’s day”. People were already at the sports centre this morning waiting to have their antiques valued by experts.
Dealers view their item, say what they think it is worth and offer their own money for it. The owner can then decide whether to take the money or go to auction.
If the deal is refused, the item is sent to auction where David Dickinson helps the participant reach an expected sale. But this is somewhat risky as the item might not make a profit or even sell.
It is Mr Dickinson’s third visit to Shropshire in recent months, following previous auctions in Newport and Bridgnorth.
The Duke, as he is fondly known by his fans, is known for the catchphrase “cheap as chips”.
Dickinson came to public attention as an antiques expert on This Morning.
This is the second series of Mr Dickinson’s show and it broadcasts on weekdays on ITV1 at 12.30pm.
