Racers get set to raise funds

A Shropshire go kart centre is staging an allcomers’ karting Grand Prix to raise cash for the Shropshire Star’s Flying Doctor Appeal.
And motorcycling enthusiasts of the Bug Splatz motorcycle club are doing a Easter Monday charity run which will further boost the appeal.
The go kart Grand Prix is being held by Crazy Karting Ltd which has an indoor and outdoor track on the Halesfield estate in Telford. The event is on April 8 – Easter Sunday – and people who fancy their chances on the track are being invited to take part.
“It’s classed as an open Grand Prix, and is open to anyone who wants to enter, whether a company or an individual,” said David Lloyd, director and owner of Crazy Karting.
Minimum age for entrants is 16 and it is hoped things will get under way by 5pm. Those taking part are being charged a minimum donation of £5, and spectators will be charged £2.50.
“All the staff are donating their wages on the night,” added Mr Lloyd.
The winner will get a glass trophy.
All those interested in taking part can contact Mr Lloyd on (01952) 588885.
Meanwhile the Bug Splatz MMC Telford Easter charity bike run on Easter Monday leaves from Wylie & Holland Motorcycles in Watling Street, Wellington, at noon, although from 10am there will be refreshments, an auction, a raffle, and a prize for the best-dressed bike.
There is a £2 donation fee per bike and the money raised will go to two charities – the Flying Doctor Appeal, and First Response.
“Both charities would provide invaluable assistance should any of our members or supporters be involved in a motorbike accident,” said Sarah Harrison, from the club.
