Youngsters ‘Feel the Noize’

Slade guitarist Dave Hill brought a bit of glam rock to a school near Albrighton when he helped to judge their music competition.
The flamboyant musician was invited along to Birchfield School for the annual contest.
Every year the four Birchfield houses, Brown, Nethy, Watson and Brelades, compete fiercely in the house music competition, with a different independent judge deciding on the overall winner.
This year it was musician Dave’s turn to sit in the judging hot seat.
His Black Country band, Slade, had 23 top 20 singles of which six were number one hits, including Merry Xmas Everybody, as well as six smash albums.
Head of music Ian Holden said: “We were really excited that legend Dave Hill came in to judge our house music competition, which we take very seriously.
“The pupils always give their best, but I think having Dave Hill has inspired them to really push themselves to give a performance like no other.”
Birchfield is a co-educational independent school for pupils aged four to 13 years. For more information or for a prospectus please call the school office on (01902) 372534.
The school’s next open day for anyone interested in looking around the premises is June 9 between 1.30pm and 4pm.
