The internet – good or bad?
Tuesday 27th March 2007, 10:17AM BST.
There’s an advert that’s been doing the rounds for some time which runs in two parts. One parts begins: “Some people think the internet is a good thing…” The second part retorts: “Some people think the internet is a bad thing…”
That advert has been on my mind over the weekend.
Few people in journalism would argue that the internet is a Godsend. It’s hard to remember what we did before a world which contained Google and online directory enquiries.
And then there’s things like Shrewsbury girl Sophie Foxley’s online blog… the internet diary of a little leukaemia sufferer which has touched people’s hearts around the world.
But the dark side of the internet that you hear about but always dismiss came into stark contrast last week with the apparent suicide on a webcam of Shropshire man Kevin Whitrick.
The fact that police had to ask people NOT to distribute the images staggered me nearly as much as reports of people egging Mr Whitrick on.
What kind of people would do either of these things?
Is the internet a good thing? Is the internet a bad thing?
The jury is still out… but you can have your say below.

Weighing up the pros and cons the Internet is more of a tool for Good than Bad, but it is human nature that is to blame for the downside, not the technology itself. Sadly there will always be people who slow down to gawp at wrecked cars on the motorway, hoping to see some grisly carnage, and the Internet will always attract people like that too. Expect to see this suicide footage crop up on TV in the future as part of some ‘exposing the dark side of the Net’ programme…

internet does not does more harm than good as if internet are harnful, we won’t be able to use it, internet lets you know about latest news and even find informations which you don’t understand and its quicker using internet than dictionary.adults and children use the internet for works like; projects, business of maybe just to stay informed about current events.
internet also lets gives you access to museums and libraries from all over the world, instant access to latest news and events, trivial knowledge, entertainment such as; music, movies, books, radio and more.
Internet also lets you stay in touch with friends or even relatives that lives far away or other countries, you may say that calling using a telepone could also help you communicate, but ever thought of telephone bills, and its much more convenient using the internet.
Internet has viruses but we can use firewall and intrusion detection system, anti virus and content filters on our mail servers, so our internet won’t be hijacked or even have spam email.
Informations can also be found just within a few minutes and it allows people to do the same things without any fuss or having to wait for a long period of time, so, therefore i conclude that internet does not do more harm than good.

well the internet is just a tool for mostly everything. if it is good or bad depends on the user. not the internet. it could be of good use if we use it for a good reason, vise versa…
