Night out left a bad taste
Tuesday 27th March 2007, 12:14PM BST.
I am totally astounded by the difference that can be experienced between the Star’s review of a restaurant and my own experiences.
My daughter selected the Caffe d’Italia as the venue for a meal out to celebrate her recent birthday. I was slightly concerned as a previous visit a few years previous to Mondial was disappointing. However having looked at the 4* award from the Star’s reviewer I was persuaded to return.
What a disaster. The service was non-existent.
Ten minutes was spent waiting at the empty bar for staff to come and serve us, a further wait at the table for 25 minutes for a waiter to take our wine order which he then forgot and we had to re-order, waiting 45 minutes from placing our order for our starters to arrive and finally waiting over an hour for main courses.
What was even worse was the fact that when the main courses arrived they were both incomplete and inedible. The people at the table next to us had been waiting two hours and requested the restaurant call out for a Chinese meal to be delivered.
The birthday celebration was totally ruined. In future I will only go on word of mouth.

Following the article I read on your website I felt that it was only fair to let you know my experiences at the Caffe d’italia.
Two weeks ago my then fiancé and I came to Telford to get married. We wanted to start our special weekend away with a special meal with some of our wedding guests (one of whom was celebrating a birthday). So the night before the wedding my now husband, myself and 11 guests went to the Caffe D’Italia for a celebration.
We were greet warmly as usual (I must point out at this stage that this was not our first visit) and even though we were in a big party were not waiting long at the bar for drinks and once we had all finally decided on our meals were efficiently and quickly shown through to our table. The staff had honoured our requests and decorated the birthday boy’s chair with balloons, party poppers and the like, they even decorated his birthday cake and joined us in singing Happy Birthday!
All of our dishes were served swiftly, efficiently and all were piping hot. My husband had even made a special request for a dish which was not on the menu, however the chef happily obliged with no trouble at all.
All in all we had a fantastic meal and the feedback received from our guests (all of whom were visiting for the first time) was wonderful, nothing but praise for the restaurant and the staff. It was the perfect start to our very special weekend.
I would also mention that when we visited the manager was away, but to be honest you would never have noticed – all her staff know of her high standards and did her proud!
I would just like to finish by saying that not only will we be eating there again on our next trip to Telford, but members of my family are regular diners at Caffe d’Italia and always recommend it to their friends.
