Midnight break-in at store
Saturday 24th March 2007, 10:33AM GMT.
Burglars stole cash, alcohol and cigarettes worth £1,700 in a midnight raid on a Telford convenience store.
They used a fencepost to prize open the metal back doors of the Spar shop in Hollinswood last night.
An alarm was activated but the raiders escaped with £700 of spirits, £800 of cigarettes and £200 cash from the till. They also caused about £350 of damage to the shop, police said today.Constable Pete Simmonds said the burglars had entered a shared yard at the back of the store.
Police were this morning at the shop carrying out forensic investigations.
And Constable Simmonds said: “We are looking at reviewing CCTV footage from the area.
“We would like to talk to anyone who was in the Hollinswood area at the time and may have seen anything. Also we are warning people to beware if they are offered cheap cigarettes or alcohol.”
The manager of the shop, who did not want to be named, said it was closed at the time of the raid but was open for business today.
He added: “It is very upsetting.
“It is not only the damage but it’s all the hassle that is the biggest problem.”
Police have urged anyone with information to call Telford police on 08457 444888 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
