Hog roast to fire up more cash
Wednesday 14th March 2007, 10:42AM GMT.
Fundraiser Tom Peel, of Leebotwood, is aiming to raise cash for the Shropshire Star’s Flying Doctor Appeal by hosting a hog roast for hundreds of people at his home in July.
A number of charities are to benefit from the “do” and – after reading about our appeal, which aims to raise £70,000 to fund a flying doctor to join the crew of the Shropshire-based air ambulance – he decided to add the cause to his list.
The event, in a converted farm building at Ashfield House on July 14, is also raising cash for the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital’s haematology unit, Hearing Dogs for the Deaf, and air ambulance funds generally.
Our appeal is a specific, targeted appeal on top of the general fundraising which the air ambulance needs to keep it flying.
Mr Peel, who is looking for between 400 and 450 people to attend, said: “There will be belly dancers performing, a tombola, hog roast, bar, singer and disco. It will run from 6pm to 1am.”
He is already selling tickets, which can be obtained from him on (01694) 751261. Family tickets cost £22 and single tickets are £10.
Meanwhile volunteers at the Donnington Wood Lifelong Learning Centre in Telford have chosen to support our appeal and have sent in £40 from a sale of books.
Future events include an Easter egg extravaganza at the centre on March 20 from 7pm to 9pm.
