Big Jack up for charity bash

Wednesday 7th March 2007, 12:39AM GMT.

Football legend Jack Charlton is to entertain guests at a Shropshire hotel and golf club charity bash.

The former Leeds star, who played in England’s winning 1966 World Cup team, will be the after-dinner speaker at the charity event at Hawkstone Park Hotel in aid of ChildLine.

The soccer great, well known for his England career and then as manager of the Republic of Ireland, will entertain guests at the golf club and hotel at Weston-under-Redcastle.

Charlton, known as Big Jack, will be joined on March 23 by former England and Worcester Warriors rugby captain Pat Sanderson who has led the national team out against the Barbarians.

The back row forward will also speak to guests when he will tell a few tales picked up during his successful rugby career.

Hawkstone Park spokeswoman Gill White said: “A great night is in store with the after-dinner speaker being none other than the legendary Jack Charlton.

“Outspoken and fearless in defence he influenced the game in a career which spanned decades.

“Jack resigned as manager of the Republic of Ireland in 1995 and now concentrates on after-dinner engagements. Pat Sanderson is also not to be missed and on the bill alongside the sportsmen is funny man, Jimmy Bright.

The black tie dinner will raise funds for ChildLine. For tickets at £35 each with a three course dinner phone (01939) 200611 or e-mail lindsaykeats@hawkstone.co.uk
