Free light bulbs offer

Monday 5th March 2007, 12:00AM GMT.

Homeowners in Mid Wales will receive free energy-efficient light bulbs thanks to the Assembly Government.

Residents will be able to swop their conventional light bulbs – if they still work – for £20 worth of low-energy bulbs which create less heat.

Conservative Assembly leader Nick Bourne told his party’s Welsh conference in Cardiff today that it must “think locally” to tackle global warming.

The light bulbs initiative is an attempt to show a practical response to climate change.

It will cost up to £24.8 million and benefit 1.24 million homes, the party said.
