Ex-Town star may join Becks
Thursday 1st March 2007, 7:16PM GMT.
Former Shrewsbury Town star Darren Currie could soon be teaming up with David Beckham after landing a trial with the Los Angeles Galaxy.
Currie, who currently plays for Championship side Ipswich Town, will spend a fortnight trying to earn a deal at the club which former England captain Beckham will join in the summer.
The 32-year-old midfielder was due to fly out to America today where he will try to impress Galaxy coach – and former Ipswich defender – Frank Yallop.
Currie made 46 appearances for the Gay Meadow club between 1996 and 1998, scoring a total of eight goals.
The nephew of former England player Tony Currie, he joined Shrewsbury from West Ham and went on to play for Plymouth, Barnet, Wycombe, Brighton and now Ipswich.
Like Beckham he shares a love of tattoos and is said to be the most tattooed player in English football.
