Space invaders hit the shops

Star Wars Stormtroopers out and about shopping in Telford today. Picture: Bob Greaves.Shoppers at Telford Town Centre rubbed shoulders with some visitors from a galaxy far, far away when they dropped in to promote a special convention.

Stormtroopers from Star Wars were on hand to promote the Movie Comic Media Expo, due to be held at the Telford International Centre next weekend.

More than 5,000 sci-fi and fantasy fans are set to flock to convention on February 24.

Visitors will see stars such as Chris Barrie, who played Rimmer in the hit BBC series Red Dwarf; Warwick Davis, well known as Professor Flitwick in the Harry Potter films; Kenny Baker, who played R2D2 in the Star Wars films and Gareth David Lloyd, known as Ianto Jones from the BBC hit series Torchwood, at the convention.

There will be several different interactive areas in the exhibition including Anime, Manga, games, Dance Dance Revolution, Yu-Gi-Oh and robot zones.

Bryan Cooney, marketing and promotional manager for the expo, said: “The new Midlands MCM Expo show is expected to attract more than 5,000 people.

“It will be a great day out with interactive areas including, Anime, Manga, games and robots.”

Tickets will cost £5 for adults and children under the age of 10 will get in free.
