Biker row pub may reopen

A Shropshire pub which closed amid controversy over its hugely popular biker meets is being revamped in readiness to reopen.
Owners of The Wheel, at Worfield, near Bridgnorth, want to create more space in the pub and build a decking area outside.
Plans have been submitted to Bridgnorth District Council, with planning consultants saying the idea is for the pub to concentrate more on food in the future.
The Wheel was thrust into the national media spotlight in June 2005 when police temporarily shut the pub after more than 1,000 bikers attended one of their regular Wednesday night meets.
Court proceedings were brought against landlady Gloria Goodson, where she had to battle to retain her licence. Mrs Goodson did reopen but then closed in November 2005, putting the pub up for sale.
The plans, submitted by Mrs Goodson and pub management company Enterprise Inns, could enable the pub to reopen soon.
Architects at Pinnegar Hayward Design, working for the applicants, have outlined their proposals in a report to the district council, which is expected to decide whether to grant permission in the next two months.
The report says: “It is the intention that the pub will emphasise more on the food trade.”
