Peters wants a string of wins

Shrewsbury chief Gary Peters is eyeing a “Stockport-style charge” up League Two – but warned that the glut of games in hand mean nothing.Town host their first League Two game at Gay Meadow for five weeks tomorrow when Glynn Hurst’s Bury are the visitors.
Shrewsbury have slipped well off the play-off pace after a lengthy spell of inactivity and enter the weekend 12 points off the top seven, albeit with three games in hand on most of their rivals.
Peters concedes only a consistent run of victories – similar to the one which has seen Stockport surge into the promotion picture — can bring Town back into contention.
“Stockport have shown that if you can win five games on the trot it can make a very big difference,” he said.
“If we are going to get into the play-offs in any way, shape or form then we need a run of wins.
“Everyone can say we could be in this place or that place after the games in hand but ‘if’ does not matter.
“We are in 15th place and we need wins to climb the table – that’s how I’m looking at it.”
Bury arrive in Shropshire on a wretched run of form having failed to chalk up a win since December 16.
But Peters feels that is not a true reflection of Chris Casper’s squad.
“They had a great run earlier in the season where they won six on the trot and they probably over-achieved then and are under-achieving now,” he added.
“They are a reasonable team who do a good job in this division and they will be tough opposition.”
Peters will be forced into at least one change with Michael Symes beginning his three-match ban for his dismissal at Mansfield last week. Andy Cooke will be favourite to deputise.
Elsewhere, Marc Tierney trained yesterday after recovering from an ankle injury – but a similar problem is likely to leave his former Oldham team-mate Danny Hall sidelined.
Town officials are hopeful the covers placed on the Gay Meadow pitch this week will ensure tomorrow’s game goes ahead.
“We have had the covers on since midweek and it’s coped with the snow very well,” said club secretary John Howarth.
“The ground staff are working hard and doing a great job and they will be happy to see any volunteers who want to assist them.
“We have a great chance of getting the game on.”
