Jobs axed in site shutdown

More than 30 jobs look set to be axed in Telford after a logistics firm today confirmed it was shutting down its town site.
NYK Logistics, Halesfield 17, Halesfield Industrial Estate, will close due to the “changing needs” of the business.
A worker at the site, who did not wish to be named, said: “We have been told 37 drivers’ jobs will be lost, plus office staff.
“We were told it is closing down in March and the firm is shifting the work to Derby and Solihull. Everybody is gutted.”
NYK Logistics has been based at Halesfield for the past four years and had undertaken haulage work for car factories such as Longbridge Rover.
Adrian Tomlinson, the firm’s director of operational support, said: “I regret to confirm our Telford site will be closing due to the changing needs of the business.
“A significant number of employees have already been re-deployed on other operations and every effort is being made to provide alternative employment for all those affected.”
