Storm brews over wind turbines
Saturday 3rd February 2007, 7:44PM GMT.
People living near Market Drayton have forced a special meeting to be held to discuss controversial wind farm plans after bombarding council officers with objection letters.
Angry residents are set to head to the town’s Festival Drayton Centre this month where plans for a temporary wind mast will be decided.
Energy company Nuon Renewables is looking to place nine 110-metre turbines in fields near Dorrington, between Woore and Loggerheads.
But the company has to assess wind speeds in the area first which is why it wants the temporary meteorological mast to go up.
But North Shropshire District Council has received nearly 400 objections from worried residents.
They fear that if permission is granted, the wind farm will soon follow.
The development control committee meeting will take place at the Frogmore Road centre on February 21, at 2pm, to decide if the temporary mast can go up on farmland in Norton-in-Hales.
