Author in airfield appeal

An aviation historian is seeking help from Salopians in writing a book about Shropshire’s airfields of the Second World War and the impact on the civilian population.
Robin J. Brooks has already written several titles in Countryside Books’ series on wartime airfields, and is now turning his attention to Shropshire, with the plan that the new book will come out next year.
“I would like to hear from anyone who has photos or memories of any of the Shropshire airfields and would be willing for me to copy such material and return to them as soon as possible. They would of course receive due credit in the book,” said Mr Brooks.
“I also include a chapter on the effect of the war on civilians, and likewise, would like to hear from anyone who has photos or memories of enemy attacks on the civilian population.”
Mr Brooks is planning to visit Shropshire in the summer to conduct interviews with contributors and also to photograph the old airfield sites.
