Teacher could soon be home

Max BishopA Shropshire teacher who was seriously injured in a coach crash in the Alps could return home early next week.

Max Bishop, pictured, is head of IT at Kingsland Grange School, in Shrewsbury.

He has been in hospital in Grenoble, France, since the accident on January 5.

Today, the headteacher of the Roman Road school, Martin James said he had received a text from Mr Bishop’s wife Lisa saying he might be transferred to a hospital in England at the beginning of next week.

Mr Bishop, 50, was brought out of a sustained coma earlier this week.

He was on a coach carrying a skiing party of more than 40 pupils, staff and parents when it crashed on the way to the airport.

Mr James said everything he had heard from Lisa was good news.

He said: “The latest we have is that we are hoping to have him repatriated to a local hospital next week.

“We do not know for certain because they are still running tests and they cannot say if they can move him or where they can move him to for follow-up treatment,” he added.

“We are very hopeful. A text from Lisa said he is recognising things and photos and people in them.

“Slowly but surely he’s coming round . . . we just want him to come back to the Princess Royal or Royal Shrewsbury Hospital as it’s local and people can go and visit him,” he added.
