Simon Cowell audition looms
Saturday 20th January 2007, 11:20AM GMT.
A Shropshire schoolgirl could soon appear on a new ITV talent show featuring X-Factor judge Simon Cowell.
Caitlin Roberts, 11, who attends Rhyn Park School and Performing Arts College, near Oswestry, has been called to the Birmingham International Convention Centre to audition for new show Britain’s Got Talent, showing in the spring.
Caitlin, from Gobowen, said she was “very excited” about auditioning for the show but admitted she would be “a bit nervous” singing in front of Cowell. She said: “I couldn’t believe it when I got a letter saying I was being invited for an audition.
“I heard about the show from a friend in school and went on the website to fill in an application form.”
She added: “I am nervous meeting Simon Cowell because I know what he is like from the other talent shows I have seen him in. I am not that nervous about the audition though as I have been through quite a few at school but I hope it goes well. Between now and the audition which is at the end of the month, I will have to work hard rehearsing and developing my breathing skills. ”
Caitlin is planning to perform her version of Corinne Bailey-Ray’s Put Your Record On.
The show is a search for Britain’s next best amateur talent act.
It will feature singers, dancers, magicians, comedians and other talents of all ages. Anyone who believes they have talent can audition.
Jan Edmundson, of Rhyn Park School, said the school was behind Caitlin and wished her the best of luck.
