We should all receive something

So Telford & Wrekin Borough Council is going to get a cash boost of £8.599 million over the next five years to spend on going “greener” and more anti-motorist (Star, December 27).
All this for a town that was built with the motor car in mind.
Shall we see a better transport system, where the rural motorists will be able to leave their cars at home and still get to work on time?
When Telford was built it was at the expense of the surrounding districts which all had thriving communities. These were killed off with the new town.
Here in Oakengates we suffer from car sharing, with people who work in Telford leaving their cars on the theatre car park all day and taking it in turn to use one car to avoid parking charges in the town centre.
We hear about “Telford First” and their ambitious plans for city status.
It appears to me that it is a case of Telford first, second, third, and if there is anything left over Telford fourth. People in the surrounding rural areas need cars to get out and about.
The districts also need cash injections so we can at least compete with Telford Town Centre.
After all we in Telford’s surrounding areas also pay our taxes, and it would be nice to see something that would benefit our communities for a change.
