Woman rescued then arrested
Saturday 6th January 2007, 11:58AM GMT.
A woman was led to safety after a blaze at a Telford home early today – and then arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life.
Police officers got the woman, who has not been named, out of the property in Madeley, after the alarm was raised shortly before 12.30am.
Paramedics went to the semi-detached home in Farm Close but the householder did not need hospital treatment.
Three crews from Telford Central and Tweedale were sent to the scene.Leading firefighter Shaun Baker, of Telford Central, said: “There was a fire in an upstairs bedroom. One person in the property was led to safety before we got there.”
He said flames could be seen coming out of the window from the bedroom when they arrived.
Mr Baker said there was heavy smoke-logging up-stairs and the bedroom was severely damaged.
The fire involved some curtains in the bedroom.
Firefighters used four breathing apparatus and two hose reel jets to fight the flames.
Inspector Dave Evans, of Telford police, said police officers arrived shortly before firefighters and helped a woman to leave the building.
He added: “A woman is being interviewed regarding the fire. She was arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life.”
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
