Dog gets stuck in farm pit
Monday 1st January 2007, 10:45AM GMT.
Fire crews were called to a Shropshire farm to rescue a dog which had become stranded on an island in the middle of a slurry pit.
A crew from Wellington fire station managed to rescue the dog, thought to be a collie, by using a rescue path – an extendable platform attached to the rescue tender.
A spokeswoman for the Shropshire Fire & Rescue Service said the dog had recovered well from its ordeal at a farm in Huntington, near Little Wenlock, yesterday.
“The dog had become trapped on an island in the middle of a slurry pit,” she said. We don’t know how he came to be there.
“Two fire appliances attended, the rescue pump and the rescue tender from Wellington.
“They were able to extend the rescue path over the slurry pit to the island to rescue him.
“The crew was out there for a while, from 3.50-5pm.”
