Body found in stream

Friday 29th December 2006, 11:09AM GMT.

A body of a man has been found in a stream in a town close to the border of Shropshire and North Wales.

Detectives taped off the area in Ruabon, near Chirk, after a woman reported seeing the body in the stream that runs close to Ruabon railway station yesterday.

An ambulance took the body after it was recovered from the water, close to the bridge at the back of Station Terrace in the town, to Glan Clwyd Hospital at Bodelwyddan.

A post mortem has been carried out and police said today the death of the man was not thought to be suspicious.

They have not identified him and have referred the matter to the coroner for North East Wales, Mr John Hughes.

The area was taped off by detectives as forensic officers searched the area for clues to the man’s death.

Inquiries continued throughout the day and into the evening and people were prevented from using a footpath that runs through a copse and down to the stream.

Police stood guard by the footpath while the investigations continued throughout the day and into the evening.

However after the post-mortem on the body, police said: “There appears to be no suspicious circumstances surrounding the man’s death.

“The scene was initially preserved but has now been released.”

The stream where the body was found is channelled into a man-made canal like waterway as it flows under the bridge.
