Teenager pulled from Severn
Saturday 23rd December 2006, 11:11AM GMT.
Ambulance service spokeswoman Daphne Lewis said they arrived at the scene after being called by police.
She said the man was unconscious when he was dragged to safety.
“He did not suffer any injuries but was cold and wet through,” she said.
A police spokesman said: “We received a call from a member of the public, who is a resident of the Greyfriars area, saying that there was a man in the water and that there was a second male trying to rescue him.
“The man was pulled out of the river in an unconscious state and was taken by ambulance by paramedics to the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital.”
The male who was in the river is believed to have been drinking.
She added: “The man who rescued him took a huge risk going into the river to pull him out, but if it was not for him the young man could have ended up dead.”
