Part of the big story

killings1.jpgSometimes a national story is just so huge, everything else has to take a back seat, writes our News Blogger David Burrows. So it has proved with what appears to be a serial killer on the streets of Ipswich.

After yesterday’s discovery of two more bodies it became clear that there was going to be no bigger story than this today. What else are people talking about?

As such the decision was taken on early today to dispatch one of our reporters to the scene so we were not relying on copy from televised press conferences and the Press Association.

Nathan Rous, who works out of our Shrewsbury office, was a crime reporter in Norwich before joining the Star, so was the natural choice.

He filed a piece from the scene in time for our Last edition today and will be sending more stories overnight and tomorrow.

This way we can ensure that not only do we get the information to the readers as quickly as possible, but that we are able to paint a more human picture of these horrific events.
