Fron choir’s album makes top 10

Monday 4th December 2006, 11:47AM GMT.

Veteran choristers from the Shropshire border are celebrating a top 10 album.

The Froncysyllte Male Voice Choir became the highest climber in the latest chart when its debut album Voices of the Valley rose four places from number 13 to nine. The choir has overtaken Jamiroquai, Sugababes and Razorlight to take its top 10 position in the pop album chart.

It is one of only three acts to have risen in the highly competitive top 50 this week, and was the only act to make the leap into the top ten.

The choir is now a surprise contender for the elusive Christmas top-spot, threatening the position of many bands currently in the top 10. The group comprises pensioners and working men from Froncysyllte in North Wales.

Meanwhile, Take That went straight in at number one with their comeback album Beautiful World, and their single Patience kept its place at the top of the singles chart.
