Train crew prepares for one last journey
Wednesday 29th November 2006, 5:24PM GMT.
Here’s a train that’s not to be missed – because if you do miss it, there ain’t going to be any others for a long time. This is the last InterCity train to Shrewsbury from London, pictured before the final InterCity train run to the county town on May 10, 1992.
Posing for the photographer with “The Salopian” are assistant driver Nigel Harkness, of Wellington, and driver Ray Lovatt, of Wolverhampton.
The picture was probably taken at Euston Station. Incidentally, the train was only half full.
Virgin restored a direct rail link to London on May 25, 1998, but the service petered out.
