Pub faces fight to retain licence
Wednesday 29th November 2006, 1:01AM GMT.
A Bridgnorth pub will have to fight for its licence next month after concerns over public safety were raised by police.
The Carpenter’s Arms, in Whitburn Street, will face a licence review hearing in front of Bridgnorth district councillors on December 12.
Licensing officer Steve Knapper said the hearing had been called because of a request from the police.
He said: “Representations have been received from West Mercia Constabulary to review the premises licence.”
Mr Knapper said the police had applied for the review because they were concerned about crime and disorder, as well as public safety, at the pub.
“This is a request that has been made solely by West Mercia Constabulary,” he said. “The issues put forward will be decided upon at the hearing.
“There a number of options available, such as no further action action be taken, or the worst case scenario is the premises licence could be revoked.”
The hearing will take place at Bridgnorth District Council’s Westgate offices on December 12, starting at 2pm. No-one was available for comment from the pub.
Two other Bridgnorth pubs have been before the licensing committee recently.
The New Inn, St Mary’s Street, and Swancote Country Club, near Worfield, were both ordered to employ a sound expert to reduce noise following complaints from residents.
