A 25-year-old Bridgnorth man who died after his car overturned on a country road was driving back from his aunt’s funeral, his family said today. Oliver Griffiths, of Whitburn Street, was killed when his silver Vauxhall Vectra left the road and struck a telegraph pole before rolling over shortly before 6.30pm on Wednesday. His parents today said they were devastated by the loss of their son who was very popular in Bridgnorth. He was driving to Nedge Farm with his wife Lisa on Wednesday night, following the funeral of his aunt, Janet Curtis, in Shifnal. Lisa was treated at the hospital for minor injuries and has since been released.
His father David Griffiths, of High Street, Bridgnorth, said everyone was still in shock.
“We feel dreadful, absolutely devastated,” he said. “He was driving to his aunt’s house after her funeral when it happened, it’s just terrible. He was an absolutely fun-loving, life-loving person, and full of energy. He was a real hard worker and he loved manual work.”
Oliver leaves his mother Julia, father David, stepfather Tim, grandmother Margaret, grandfather Geoff, and his wife Lisa. His father said Oliver would be sadly missed by all.
The collision happened just outside Shifnal on Shaw Road at its junction with Haughton Lane shortly before 6.30pm.
Mr Griffiths suffered serious head injuries and was pronounced dead at the Princess Royal Hospital, Telford. A post mortem was held yesterday and an inquest is expected to be opened next week.
Police today repeated appeals for witnesses who saw the collision or the car being driven immediately beforehand to call 08457 444888.
