Fireworks ought to be banned

This letter is addressed to all Shropshire Star readers and animal lovers. We have already been subjected to a week of hearing fireworks every night. If this is like previous years it will continue almost every night for months. My 14-year-old dog is so terrified sometimes I fear she may have a heart attack. I’m sure many more have animals that feel the same way.
We are supposed to be a nation of animal lovers, so let’s prove it by inundating Consumer Affairs Minister Gerry Sutcliffe’s office with requests to stop the sale of fireworks to the public and only make them available for public display in the hands of professionals.
You may wish to tell him about your experiences and how your pets suffer. If your pet is particularly frightened by the noise of fireworks, you may wish to point out that noise reduction would help to reduce the distress caused.
