Moo-ving moment for fisherman
Tuesday 31st October 2006, 10:00AM GMT.
How’s this for a catch? A fisherman spotted this cow swimming along the canal at Chirk Bank near Oswestry. The frightened animal got stuck in the Llangollen Canal when, once in the water, she was unable to climb up the steep bank to safety.
Mr Bob Scott, who was staying with friends on the Shropshire border for the weekend, took the photograph when he saw the incident while out walking along the towpath.
“I wasn’t until after I took the photo that I noticed the fire service just behind the animal,” Mr Scott, who lives in London, said.
Firefighters were called to rescue a cow, which had become stuck in the canal between Weston Rhyn and Chirk, just after 12.30pm yesterday.
A spokesman for the Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service said one crew from Oswestry went to the scene at Chirk Bank.
Firefighters wearing life-jackets used lines to rescue the animal, getting her out of the water just after 2.30pm. The animal was none the worse for her experience.
“I was glad to hear that the cow was rescued safely,” Mr Scott said.
