Dad admits bike injury stunt

But witnesses came forward after an appeal in the Shropshire Star saying they had seen the boy on his Chopper bike holding on to a car as it moved along the road.

Today his father admitted he had been the driver towing the bike and issued a public apology.

He said: “It was a stupid thing and I’ve paid the consequences.”

Collins admitted he could have killed his son, pictured above. He said he had been in shock and had not immediately told police what happened. He added that he had been driving at no more than 5mph.

Collins, 37, of Duffryn, Hollinswood, was arrested by police for dangerous driving and charged on October 7 with driving without due care on Holyhead Road on September 19. At Telford Magistrates Court he admitted the offence as well as failing to report an accident.

He was fined a total of £150 with £43 costs and banned for 12 months.

Dominic, of The Rock, Telford, suffered a fractured jaw and wrist, a broken shoulder, an eye injury and cuts and bruises. He has now returned to lessons.

His mother, Amanda Jervis, said her son still suffered from amnesia and and she was upset and angry.

Constable Pete Simmonds, of Telford police, said: “An appeal through the Shropshire Star was made, which culminated in a number of people contacting Telford police.”
