Stadco signs MG parts deal

Stadco’s new agreement is with Nanjing Automotive Corporation (NAC), the Chinese firm which bought out MG Rover.
No one from the Stadco was available for comment today, although the news is bound to help secure the factory’s future.
And the leader of Birmingham City Council today also welcomed the deal.
Councillor Mike Whitby said the agreement was evidence of the NAC’s long-term commitment to resuming car production at the Longbridge plant.
Mr Whitby said Stadco would supply key components to NAC for use in the production of its new MGTF sports cars, which are due to start rolling off assembly lines at the factory in 2007.
“Since the closure of the plant, the city council has worked tirelessly with NAC to create an environment within which the assembly lines can roll once more,” he said.
“We believe this work is really starting to pay off and this announcement provides yet more evidence of NAC’s long-term commitment to re-establishing Longbridge as one of Europe’s leading car producing centres.”
Mr Whitby said resumption of car production at the plant would create jobs and inward investment.”
Stadco employs hundreds at its sites in Shrewsbury, Castle Bromwich, Coventry and Tipton.
